10 Reasons To Hire A Interior Designer

I think that there is a common misconception that hiring a interior designer is going to be more expensive for you than to not hire one. People think, Oh, well if I hire an interior designer I am going to have to pay a design fee, which is going to end up costing more. I am going to bust that myth right here, right now. In reality we are saving you so much time, money and stress. Let me list the 10 reasons why you should hire a interior designer for your next project.

  1. Our knowledge and resources. As designers, we go to school and live and breathe design all day, everyday. We know the ins and outs of the process from start to finish. We have incredible resources for all areas of a design project right at our fingertips (think contractors, finish workers, paperhangers, painters, builders, architects, electricians, etc.) Aside from the resources we have for the tradesmen that are needed to complete a project, we have special resources for furnishings and décor that are only available through a designer.

  2. We understand timelines of a project. We know based on the market and lead times of specific items and materials, when to order to avoid any set backs and to keep a project on track. This is CRUCIAL.

  3. We are really good decision makers so that you don’t have to be. Any project whether it is refurnishing a home, building or renovating a home can be stressful. There are a million and one plus decisions that need to be made. If you do not have a designer, more than likely your contractor or builder is going to contact you and say we need this decision right now because we have our painter scheduled to come tomorrow. Then what? You are stressing because you need to have a color picked right now and you have no idea where to start. What if you pick the wrong one and then you have to spend more money to have the painter come back out to paint it again. With a interior designer on your project, the contractor will already have your paint selections on hand and there is no pressure for you to make a quick, rash decision. This just the perfect example of how a interior designer can help you SAVE money! Are you catching my drift yet?

  4. We work to understand how you live and use a space based on your routines, and we are able to execute a floor plan to fit your lifestyle. I can’t tell you how often you will find a new build home, where the builder makes the decisions without consideration for how the client is actually going to use the space. When a designer is on the project, we make tweaks to the floor plan that are tailored to you before breaking ground or any construction is even started. This will save you major headaches in the long run and money because you are not having to make any changes once the builder or contractor has already started. If you were to do that then it is just a domino effect of set backs and then your 1 year home build is now a 2 year home build. Again, a interior designer can help you make all of these detailed decisions that you otherwise wouldn’t consider to avoid a situation like this.

  5. We understand how furniture is made (quality versus not), materials, etc. We know what furniture is worth money and what isn’t. A interior designer understands the construction of a piece of furniture from the frame structure, fill material and the longevity of it, finish, fabric materials. You wouldn’t want to spend $10k on a sofa, wait a year for it to arrive and learn that after a year of use the cushions barely keep their shape and it squeaks when you flop down on it, would you?! We have the knowledge and expertise to present quality options that will fit the bill and last.

  6. Vendor connections for achieving your look for your budget. Interior designers work with so many different vendors and companies every day. Each vendor and company has their own level of quality, style and aesthetic. That being said, based on your budget and look that you are trying to achieve, we know exactly what vendors and companies to go to in order to execute the design. By not having a designer working with you, you may be ordering 8 different coffee tables for your space because you can’t decide or the color/shape isn’t right. Then you are having to waste your time and energy (and money) on returning these items. We are experts. Let us help you and you can sit back and let it all happen.

  7. We understand how to communicate and provide your builder or contractor with the details of the design plan in order to achieve your desired look with no set backs on the project. A great interior designer is detail oriented. We need to be in order to execute a project and have it be successful. Our job on a project is to be able to provide the builder or contractor with the details of materials, how to install the design, what paint colors/finishes, etc. so that when it comes time and they have the tile guy show up, he knows EXACTLY how we want it cut, installed and finished for you so that there are no mistakes. Clear communication with all trades is what we are best at!

  8. We know where you should splurge and where you can cut down costs. Everyone has a budget whether they say so or not. We understand and respect that. With that said, we are able to confidently from experience and our expertise in the industry, educate you on smart places to spend and cut down on on costs. Personally, I find that my clients appreciate this aspect of my process.

  9. We are creatives. Our job is to make your home speak to YOU. It is supposed to reflect who you are and how you and your family lives. We don’t want your home to look like everyone else’s in the neighborhood or on Instagram. All of us have unique journeys in life, life experiences, interests, hobbies… we as designers take all of that into consideration and bring you the ultimate design of your space to exude who you are. As creatives, we also are able to come up with pretty clever solutions for a problematic area that you may otherwise not be able to solve on your own.

  10. We are able to provide you with detailed, realistic renderings of your space so that you can be obsessed with it before it has even started! There are many steps that happen before this part, however it is pretty cool that we are able to give you a detailed, photo realistic visual of your space with all selections so that you can really see it in action. This also give you the confidence that hiring an interior designer was probably the best decision you could have made (I am not tooting my own horn, but this is feedback that I have received from providing this as part of my service!) When we do this in our design process, we find that our clients suddenly have no hesitations on the selections and decisions that we have helped them make. This is when the client really gets excited about it all!

Well, what do you think? Do you see how valuable a interior designer can be on your project yet?! I hope that this was useful information to you and maybe this helped you if you were on the fence about hiring an interior designer for your next project. You won’t regret it.
